EPISODE 9 - KEVIN O’CONNOR

So this is the last episode of the season and I’m here with my husband Kevin O’Connor who has recently left his job at Reddit to now work for Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York City as a Director of Engineering.  In this episode, he’ll walk you through his career journey in the tech industry. Learn about his take on managing former peers, managing up to his leaders, and how he’s used his privileges to help those around him. Also, just note that if he sounds like he knows what he’s talking about, it was because I coached him throughout his career. But if you don’t agree with what he says, that’s on him.

Jazmyn and I used to work together in a publicly traded media corporation until we both decided to pursue our passion. In this episode, we’ll learn more about her jump from HR to comedy and how she has adapted her comedy career during quarantine. She’ll enlighten us about black history and give advice on how we can play a role in counteracting systemic racism, particularly, how we can support the Black Lives Matter efforts.

We’ll talk a good amount about money and how it plays an influential role in the relationships we have and also in how we perceive our self-worth. Specifically, Sheena will remark on the pivotal moment when she first realized she was impacted by pay inequality and her response to it. Towards the end we’ll also talk about her challenges working in healthcare while balancing her passion for social justice.
