Course Description

What’s making you avoid difficult conversations at work? Maybe you don’t want to rock the boat, don’t know how to start, or are afraid of how the other person will react. What, or who, are you steering clear of today? We’ve all been there -- and with the right techniques, we can learn how to navigate seemingly awkward conversations and turn them into learning experiences and build better working relationships.

Audience: All Employees
Duration: 2 hours

Learning objectives include:

  • Become self-aware of how you naturally respond to conflict and any pitfalls that prevent you from resolving disagreements

  • Reframe your mindset to create a solution where all parties can win

  • Respond to unfavorable emotions and control yours throughout the conflict resolution process

  • Resolve obstacles in a diplomatic and respectful way that fosters a culture of healthy conflict

The Focal Point

If we don’t address conflict directly, it’ll get worse, the problem will fester, you’ll build resentment, and the problem may never go away.

Oftentimes, we don’t have these conversations because we don’t like confrontation or we don’t know where to start.

This class will help you reframe your mindset and approach to tackling conflict and you’ll be provided with a simple framework to start the conversation.

Learning Agenda

  • Self-awareness: examine how we naturally respond to conflict and become more understanding of other people and why they may behave the way that they do

  • Check yourself: learn different questions you can ask yourself to see if you’ve contributed to the problem

  • Mindset: frame the conversation in a positive way and switch gears to make the conversation easier to manage

  • The right words: use the right words to minimize tension and foster collaboration

  • Responding to reactions: get practice role-playing with different personalities and behaviors of your peers

What to Expect

  • Confidentiality Applies: Feed Learning will facilitate the training but the richness of the learning will come from the learners as they share their experience. We encourage you to share as much as you feel comfortable.

  • Growth Mindset: We’re all here learning together. We’re all going to make mistakes. Great news! This is a safe space to try things out!

  • Participate & Have Fun: There will be plenty of activities throughout the training using Zoom annotations, open discussion, chat, self-reflection, role-playing, and breakout sessions. All participants will receive an Activity Handout and an abbreviated version of the training deck.
